Trajectory Schema....

Realising the Ambition: Being Me

Lets take a look at the Trajectory Schema...

Transporting Schema - Children are fascinated with the movement and paths of objects and themselves. Creating linear or curved motions in space.

What might the children be learning ?
  • Children may be learning about speed, distance, direction. They may be exploring force and movement.
  • The Trajectory Schema also encourages children to engage in physical activity, therefore developing their gross motor skills, balance and coordination and spacial awareness.

How can i support this schematic play?
  • To explore this schema children need to experience space and how things move in it.
  • Ensure there is access to space indoor and outdoors for a child's movement - jumping, running, rolling, dancing etc..
  • Objects to throw, drop, roll etc..
  • Plenty of loose parts to explore, natural resources
  • Walks outdoors - see trees swaying in the breeze, leaves moving around in the wind, water running in the streams etc..
  • Water play and sand play
  • Bubbles
  • Kites and flags on breezy days
  • Ramps for cars and other objects to roll down
  • Cars and vehicles in small world play

Have a look around your setting... what resources do you have available for children to support their Trajectory Schema? Is there anything you could add or enhance?
